How to create a quotation

  1. Enter your business and the client's details — no GSTIN required.
  2. Add line items with description, quantity/unit, and rate; tax % per line is optional and indicative only.
  3. Set a validity date and any notes, then review the free on-page preview.
  4. Download the free PDF — no watermark. Once accepted, one click converts it into a GST tax invoice.

Your quotation data is processed entirely in your browser — party names, line items, and amounts never reach our servers. We do not store, log, or share your document data.

A quotation carries no GST filing obligation of its own. GST attaches to the supply, not the quote: you issue a tax invoice under Section 31 of the CGST Act (contents per Rule 46 of the CGST Rules). If you take an advance for services on acceptance, GST is due on the advance and you issue a receipt voucher (Rule 50). Quotation vs invoice vs receipt — full guide →

Buyer accepted the quote? A quotation is not the GST tax invoice. Issue the pakka bill when you supply: for goods, at or before dispatch; for services, within 30 days.

FAQ

Quotation generator: common questions

Is a quotation the same as a GST invoice?
No. A quotation (also called a quote or estimate) is a price offer made before work begins. On its own it creates no debt; once the buyer accepts, it can form a binding contract whose payment terms apply. A GST tax invoice (pakka bill) is issued for the actual supply (for goods, before or at the time of removal; for services, within 30 days of supply). Unlike a quotation, it must carry the Rule 46 particulars, including the supplier's GSTIN, HSN/SAC and the tax breakup. See our quotation vs invoice vs receipt guide for the full comparison.
Does a quotation need a GSTIN or HSN code?
No. A quotation is a pre-contractual offer, not a statutory GST document. GSTIN and the tax breakup are mandatory on the GST tax invoice under Rule 46; HSN/SAC is required at 4 or 6 digits depending on turnover (optional on B2C invoices up to ₹5 crore turnover). Adding a tax % to your quote is optional and is simply an indication of what the invoice will charge — it does not constitute a tax invoice.
Can I use this quotation as a tax invoice?
No — and the PDF deliberately prevents this. The header prints "QUOTATION" (not "Tax Invoice"), there is no GSTIN or HSN field, and the fence footer explicitly states this is not a tax invoice. A quotation relabelled as a tax invoice is not legally valid for GST compliance or Input Tax Credit. Use the pakka bill generator for a Rule 46-compliant tax invoice.
How does the "Convert to GST Invoice" feature work?
Once your buyer accepts the quote, click "Convert to GST Invoice" on the download screen. Your from/to parties and all line items are automatically prefilled into the pakka bill form — you only need to enter your GSTIN, choose HSN/SAC codes per item, and pay ₹5 for the final tax invoice PDF.
Is the quotation PDF free? Why?
Yes — fully free, no watermark, no signup. A quotation has no prescribed statutory contents, so there is nothing to validate. We charge ₹5 for the final PDF on documents that tax or GST rules depend on (GST tax invoice, salary slip, rent receipt), where the engineering cost is real.

First-timer questions

  • Is the quotation PDF free?

Yes — fully free, no watermark, no signup. A charge only applies if you convert the quote to a GST pakka bill (tax invoice) — ₹5.

  • Is a quotation a legal document?

A written quotation is an offer. Nothing is payable on the quote alone, but once the buyer accepts, it can become a binding contract and its payment terms (for example, an advance) apply. A quotation is not a substitute for a GST tax invoice.

  • Does a quotation need a GSTIN or HSN code?

No. A quotation is not a statutory document under GST law. GSTIN and the tax breakup are mandatory on the GST tax invoice (pakka bill) under Rule 46 CGST Rules; HSN/SAC is required at 4 or 6 digits depending on turnover (optional on B2C invoices up to ₹5 crore turnover).

  • How does "Convert to GST Invoice" work?

Click the button on the download screen. Your from/to details and all line items are prefilled into the pakka bill form. You then add your GSTIN, HSN/SAC codes, and pay ₹5 for the final PDF.
